Renate
Psychologist traumatherapist

Introduction
Nothing fulfills me more than providing emotional support to people. I make a practice of listening carefully to each person’s unique story in order to truly grasp what it means to them. I combine this commitment with a talent for identifying and reflecting back structures and patterns that seem to matter in peoples lives. Working together, we gain increasing insight into what is going on. This awareness is the key to making new choices that enable you to shape your life as much as possible on your own terms. I have various tools to help overcome any obstacles along the way, and I will be happy to share them with you.
With over 29 years of professional experience, I still consider it a great honor when people place their trust in me by sharing a part of their inner world. My life experience, professional expertise, and compassion for others continue to grow week by week. For me, keen analysis goes hand in hand with an openness to the spiritual aspects of the issues people bring to me. I value keeping both feet firmly on the ground while simultaneously remaining mindful of the bigger picture.
The key to my work is attention/presence. Genuine attention for my client, whom I teach or support to pay genuine attention to themselves. To stop running away from inner pain isn’t easy, but it can be very healing. Conscious attention creates an atmosphere of safety, focus, openness, and engagement.
I do my best to be my authentic self as much as possible, with a ‘what you see is what you get’ attitude. I do not believe in ‘professional distance’. I bring myself into the interaction, simply being Renate Janssen. The professional and the human being. I’ll be there for you. In my opinion, that is the only thing that really works.
Naturally, there is a strong connection between body and mind. When overcoming psychological problems is the goal, the body cannot be ignored. The best results are achieved when conventional and alternative (or rather, complementary) methods complement each other.
I am married and mother of two adult children. ASD and ADHD are present in my family, although I’m neurotypical myself. As a result, over the past few years I have built up a great deal of theoretical knowledge as well as expertise gained through experience in this field. I am therefore happy to be actively helpful, particularly to partners and mothers of people with autism and/or ADHD. It brings a layer of almost natural understanding.
Online therapy
Face-to-face meetings in my private practice in Amersfoort-Hoogland are most ideal. And yet, online therapy via video calling has a number of important advantages:
You save on travel time and costs;
You conduct the conversation from your own safe and familiar environment, behind your own PC, laptop, or tablet;
In some cases, you can even receive therapy or coaching at work, provided you able to fully safeguard your privacy.
It might take some getting used to, seeing and speaking to each other via a webcam, but you’ll adapt quickly. Experience shows that the quality of the contact is just as good as in face-to-face meetings.
Working online does not entail any extra costs. We'll schedule an appointment in advance for an online session. I use a very user-friendly application called WeSeeDo. This is fully GDPR compliant and ISO certified. Because of the secure environment, you do not need to worry about your privacy. You will receive a link for the agreed time, and the rest is practically self-explanatory.
Qualifications and registrations
After graduating, I completed various training programs in Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapy (NLPt), EMDR, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Logosynthesis, and the Healing Journey according to Brandon Bays.
I am trained in basic regular medical knowledge at the higher professional education (HBO) level.
Every year, I attend various larger and smaller continuing education courses to continue my personal and professional development. In doing so, I follow the training guidelines of the umbrella organization NAP and the professional organization NVPA. Additionally, I am affiliated with the NFG, Logosynthesis Netherlands, the LIA (Logosynthesis International), and the SCAG (complaints procedure).
In 2006, I obtained the European Certificate for Psychotherapy (ECP) in the modality of Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapy (NLPt). NAP ECP therapists form a small professional group in the Netherlands that, in terms of educational level and attainment targets, is comparable to a healthcare psychologist (GZ-psychologist). However, since we do not hold a BIG registration, the services of the ECP holder are only reimbursed from supplementary policies.

Specialisations and Expertises
I always say that I strive to make myself redundant as a psychologist as soon as possible. We work together for as long as is necessary, but obviously, no longer than that.
The emphasis is not on unnecessary diagnostics to satisfy a health insurer. Instead, we map out what the problems consist of, where they originated, and what your desired outcome of the therapy is. It then usually also becomes clear which obstacles still exist that are keeping you away from your goal. Often, these are unprocessed memories of intense events (trauma), limiting beliefs about yourself and/or the world, or anxious fantasies that prevent you from shaping your life exactly the way that suits you.
Therapy with me is an organic process in which we tackle and 'clear away' inner obstacles together. In this way, you naturally get closer and closer to your goal. I monitor this process and guide you through the steps you take. I have several therapeutic methods at my disposal for this. There is always one available that fits. Should you require specific skills to achieve your goal, we will naturally work on this, or I will refer you to an expert in that specific skill.
There is currently no waiting time. Usually you can schedule an appointment for an initial consultation/intake within 2 weeks.
De meest behandelde klachten in mijn praktijk:
In my private practice, I often see people who were bullied as children, or later in life- for example, at work—and who are still experiencing adverse consequences from this. Being bullied is a specific trauma that impacts a person's attachment system. It is therefore important that this trauma is not trivialized or downplayed, and that sufficient attention is paid to the attachment aspects.
People with other forms of trauma, whether single or more complex, also often visit my practice.
Furthermore, I often see people with mood disorders, anxieties, challenges in dealing with high sensitivity, relational problems, or stress related issues like burnout.
Fees
The hourly rate is €99.00. Based on my affiliation with NAP/NVPA/NFG, my clients can in many cases claim a certain amount of money from most supplementary insurance policies.
